The Ledger

Every price the bench charges, what each job covers and how long it takes. If a job is not here, bring the instrument in for the free fifteen-minute look and it will be written down for you before anything starts.

Terms

Quotes. Every job over €60 gets a written quote at the bench before any work starts: what will be done, what it costs and when it will be ready. Nothing is done that was not agreed. If something else turns up once the keys are off, the work stops and you are asked. The front page walks through how a job goes, from the free look to collection.

Deposit. A 30 percent deposit is taken on full repads and on any job over €300, when the quote is agreed.

Payment. Pay the rest when you collect, in cash or by card, once you have played the instrument at the bench yourself.

By post. Instruments from elsewhere in Flanders are accepted for full repads only, by arrangement first, packed in a hard case. Write before you send anything.

Busy seasons. September is the school rush and March to May is band-contest season. Lead times stretch by about a week in both.

No job too small. A single pad or a loose screw is welcome. A single pad is €18 plus the €35 bench fee. Small fixes that arrive before 11:00 on a Saturday are often done the same morning.

§ 4

What We Turn Away

  • Brass of any kind. Trumpets, horns and euphoniums go to a brass specialist, and Lieve will tell you which kind to look for.
  • Double-reed overhauls. A stuck key or a loose cork on an oboe or bassoon is fine. A full overhaul is not.
  • Refinishing. No relacquering, replating or silver work, and nothing is sent out to be refinished.
  • Buying and selling. No sales, no part-exchange and no valuations for insurance.
  • Rushed repads. Nothing in under a week. A pad seated in a hurry leaks in a month. The Bench explains why.
  • Repairs worth more than the instrument. You are told plainly, and the look costs nothing.
